There are many sports in Barbados for both spectators and for those that would like to participate. Barbados is probably best known for the national sport of cricket, and was the host for the ICC Cricket World Cup Final in 2007. To host the games a beautiful new stadium the Kensington Oval was built. Barbados has produced several of the most famous players in International cricket the most well known being Sir Garfield Sobers who was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his contribution to the sport. You can watch cricket almost all year around at several cricket grounds in Barbados but the main one is Kensington.
The Sandy Lane Golf and Country Club was chosen by top golfer Tiger Woods to have his wedding. Horse racing in Barbados is a huge attraction and is a guaranteed day of fun and excitement. Horse racing is held at the Garrison Savannah where it has been held since 1845, it's an area in Barbados steeped in history. The quality of jockeys and horses is of International standards as shown by Patrick Husbands who frequently races in Canada.
Polo has become another popular International spectator sport in Barbados. Polo has been played on the island since the 1800's, but today players and spectators from around the world come for the International matches hosted by Barbados.
You can ride for miles on the beautiful beaches enjoying the peace and quiet while taking in the breathtaking landscape. Or go trail riding through the stunning countryside enjoying the picturesque local scenery and fantastic views of the East Coast.
Kendal is located in a very scenic part of the island at Carrington, in the Parish of St. Phillip. Shooting is a sport that is very popular with a shooting range that the Barbados Rifle and Pistol Association runs at the National Stadium.
